This post is for all of the people that doubt the amazing culinary art of baking!  You think it's to hard, or complicated - MYTH!!!  Baking can be very easy and I'm going to show you how!  Think SEMI-HOMEMADE!!! That's the key!!!

Let's start with this recipe for cinnamon rolls that you can make in 5 minutes (not including baking time) and you don't even have to get your hands dirty, well maybe just a little bit!!  Remember we are "Out of the Box" Bakers, we take things that are ordinary and make them extraordinary!

STEP 1
So all we need to start is a can of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls, I like the flaky ones.  Think of this as a starter kit!  Pre-heat the oven as directed on the can, place your rolls in a pan, put them close together so when you add that yummy delicious icing it will easily pour over them all!  All you need to do to make this recipe taste more home made and delicious is add more cinnamon/sugar to it.  Sprinkle it right on top!  You can either mix your cinnamon and powdered sugar together in a bowl and sprinkle it on or buy the cinnamon/sugar pre-mixed.

STEP 2
Bake as directed on the can, when they are done baking you can see and smell all of that extra deliciousness that we just added to our semi-homemade cinnamon rolls.

The Best Part!! FINAL STEP!
We all know that what makes the cinnamon roll delicious is the icing glaze!! Pillsbury gives you some pre-made icing glaze, but if that isn't enough for you, just make your own!! It's so simple.  I usually put the icing glaze that comes with the rolls in the microwave for a few seconds so it will pour evenly over my cinnamon rolls.

And We Are Done!  Now That Wasn't Bad at All!!  Have One, I Made These Just For You, Enjoy!

Here's the recipe for the icing glaze
  • 1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon clear vanilla extract (we only use the clear to keep the glaze white, the brown vanilla extract that you're probably used to will work just fine!
Stir milk into sugar. Add vanilla. Drizzle on cinnamon rolls.

If it's to thin just add more powdered sugar, if it's too thick, add a tad bit more milk

More Simple yet Delicious Dessert Ideas:

Apple Pie

I love Ms. Smiths deep dish apple pie, but we can kick it up a notch!  After you poke your holes in the crust, melt some butter and brush it over the top of the pie crust, then sprinkle some extra cinnamon and sugar on top, for this I use actual cinnamon and then sprinkle on the sugar, i want that extra kick, that only cinnamon can give so I don't use the pre-mix, then pop it in the oven and bake as directed.  This is a simple addition that makes a world of difference!!!

Strawberry Shortcake

This is truly one of my FAVORITE quick and easy desserts.  Cut up some fresh strawberries, the trick to making sour strawberries sweet and delicious and to getting a nice "glaze" is to use powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar .. both work, but you can make your strawberries a lot sweeter and use less sugar if you use the powdered sugar.  The longer they sit the more juice/glaze they make.  Take a slice of  Sara Lee pound cake (found in the frozen section from your local grocery store), put your sweetened strawberries on top and top it off with either a dab of cool whip, or make your own homemade whipped cream!!!  This dessert is light and DELICIOUS!! you can even crumble up the cake and layer the cake and strawberries in a clear cup, top with cool whip and have a parfait!  Perfect treat for a party or if you just need to treat yourself!  Step outside of the box, switch up the fruit, try this out with mango, pineapple or kiwi, it's all delicious!

Home Made Whipped Cream

AGAIN IT'S SOOO EASY and delicious, once you taste this you won't go back to cool whip!! Don't doubt yourself, you can do it!  Enjoy any fruit topped with this delicious whipped cream and you've got a treat minus all the calories from the cake, yes I'm a baker, I love sweet treats and I still monitor my caloric intake .. it's all about balance and portion size people!!!
 Here's the recipe!
All you need is 2 cups heavy Whipping cream, (the small containers have 2 cups of cream), and 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar, you can also add 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract or any flavoring,  if you'd like.
Place the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla extract in your mixer, or bowl and beat on high until soft peaks form, don't over beat!  In about 2 minutes you'll have homemade whipped cream!!
